Amazon Mechanical Turk is a labor platform where employers hire empolyees (Requesters) by posting tasks, called “HITs”. These tasks are “micro tasks”, larger projects broken up into smaller pieces. For example, if you have 1,000 vacation photos, you’d post each individually for tagging. Any task that can be broken up into smaller pieces can be posted to AMT – there are bigger tasks as well if you so desire. The HITs pay on average 10c up to few dollars per task.

To earn, you just have to sign up and get started. You’ll have to do crummy HITs that pay poorly to start, but once you have about 10,000 approved (you’ve been paid for them, in opposition to rejected HITs where you do the work and get nothing for it, often due to no fault of your own) HITs, you’ll have access to more work. That can take you a month or a year, depending on how much time you have, how patient you are, and how much abuse you’re willing to take. Leave a comment if you have any questions!
